Watching a Security Worker Preforming His Duties (written for Security Officer Dallas)
The next time you're in a setting where security guards are present, observe them for a few moments. Then ask yourself, what do you see?
You won't find a security guard moving quickly while on patrol. That's because he is frequently on the lookout for suspicious behavior. He’s also looking to make sure there’s nothing abnormal with the physical plant that needs repairing.
Notice how the security guard makes eye contact with pretty much everyone. Making eye contact is a good way to gauge whether or not a person needs to be watched more closely.
Watch to see how proactive a security guard is by how often he waits to check on something on his patrol beat. This deliberate stop subconsciously shows people that the security guard is doing his duty to deter theft, vandalism or other illegal activity.
Keep a lookout for security guards walking the parking lot. Often, they are in a marked vehicle equipped with a light bar on top. The security guards can respond quickly to a fender bender in the parking lot. They can also help you jumpstart your car, if necessary, or help you retrieve your keys that you locked in the car.
